For anti-inflammatory action and
Two 200 mg tablets three or four
times daily. Maximum recommended dosage is 2,000 mg, or ten tablets daily.
Larger tablet sizes may soon be available.
Like other drugs of this group,
the most frequent side effects are gastrointestinal. Irritation of the
stomach lining can cause nausea, heartburn, and indigestion. Occasionally,
individuals note fluid retention. Allergic reactions such as rash or asthma
are very rare. Hospitalization for gastrointestinal bleeding occurs in about
1% of those taking full doses for one year.
For irritation of the stomach,
decrease the dose or spread the tablets out throughout the day. Absorption
will be slightly decreased if you take the drug after meals or after
antacids, but greater comfort may result. Aspirin and other drugs of this
class may potentially interfere with absorption and the best rule is to take
just one drug at a time. Tolectin is useful in rheumatoid arthritis. It ahs
found use in degenerative arthritis of the hip and for treatment of local
