Blackmores Joint Formula
Indication
Adjunct to the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Properties and effects
Research shows that glucosamine may help reduce joint inflammation and
swelling, increase joint mobility, and provide temporary relief of the pain
of osteoarthritis.
Mode of action and pharmacokinetics
Glucosamine is formed in the body from glucose and the amino acid glutamine.
it is a key part of the structure of cartilage, which is essential for
proper joint function.
As we get older, cartilage becomes more susceptible to breakdown and damage,
which may result in the typical symptoms of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine
capsules can be an important additional source of this component of
cartilage as we age. Glucosamine capsules provide relief from symptoms
associated with degenerative joint conditions such as osteoarthritis.
Chondroitin sulfate is also found in cartilage, and helps joints resist
compressive loads and cope with weight-bearing activities such as running
and walking.
Blackmore Joint Formula combines glucosamine and chondroitin to help
stimulate the production and regeneration of cartilage and help relieve the
symptoms of osteoarthritis. Blackmores Joint Formula is recommended for
those with osteoarthritis and joint pain.
In the event of severe pain, it is advisable to take an anti-inflammatory
drug during the first days of treatment.
Glucosamine taken orally is 90% absorbed in the small intestine. The
glucosamine concentrationin the body peaks between 6 and 24 hours after
consuming. Glucosamine diffuses into several tissues, in particular bone and
articular cartilage. It is mainly excreted in the urine. Chondroitin sulfate
is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma levels occur
1 hour after oral administration. Chondroitin diffuses into several tissues,
including the synovial tissue and cartilage and is mainly excreted in the
urine and faeces.
