Beacon-K
Description
Beacon K is slow-release
preparation and contains 600mg of Potassium Chloride.
Properties
Potassium is the predominant
intracellular cation where sodium content is low. In contrast, sodium
predominates in extracellular fluid where the potassium content is low.
These sodium-potassium concentration gradients are necessary for the
conduction of nerve impulses in such specialized tissues as the heart, brain
and skeletal muscle to maintain normal renal function and acid base balance.
High intracellular potassium concentrations are necessary for cellular
metabolism.
Indications
Potassium depletion due to
long-term administration of potassium depleting drugs.
Contraindications
Renal failure, plasma potassium
concentration above 5 mmol/litre.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting.
Precautions
Intestinal stricture, hiatus
hernia.
Dosage
1 tablet to 2 tablets three times
daily or as directed by physician.
Storage conditions /shelf-life
