How can neem help in human health ?
A) DIGESTIVE DISORDERS
Digestive system comprises of mouth, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, small intestines and large intestines. Impairment in the physiological functions of any of these organs leads to digestive disorders.
Neem works wonders in treating
digestive disorders like heartburn/ indigestion, gastritis, peptic/duodenal ulcers, hemorrhoids & constipation. The acrid,
astringent, stomatic action of neem helps cure disorders.
B) RESPIRATORY DISORDER
Nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs comprise the respiratory system. Common symptom found in many respiratory disorders like bronchitis, laryngitis, tuberculosis, pleurisies etc is cough. Neem will help to relief the condition.
C) SKIN DISEASES
According to Ayurveda, skin diseases are caused by the excess sugary substance in the body. To counteract them, the opposite of sugar is better. Neem is highly effective to treat disorders
like psoriasis, acne, eczema, itching, dandruff and warts. Neem preparations are reportedly efficacious against variety of skin disease, septic sores and infected burns.

Neem is reported to be effective in treating certain fungi that infect human body such as athlete's foot fungus
that infects hair, skin and nails; a ring worm that invades both skin and
nails of feet; a fungus of the intestinal tract; a fungus that causes
infections of the bronchi, lungs and mucous membranes.
It can also prevent fungus that is part of the normal mucous flora that can get out of control leading to lesions in mouth, vagina, skin, hands and lungs.
E) VIRAL DISEASES
Neem has been used traditionally in India to treat several viral diseases. Even many medicinal practitioners believe that neem is convincingly effective against smallpox, chicken
pox, and fowl pox.
Neem inactivates the viruses effectively preventing them from spreading over unaffected cells. Neem
is effective against herpes/ cold sores virus and the viral DNA polymerase of hepatitis B virus.
F) PERIODONTAL DISEASE
Neem has been used in India and all of south Asia for thousands of years as the preferred method for maintaining healthy teeth and gums (Patel, 1988). Neem toothpastes prevent cavities, heal gum diseases and rejuvenate the tissues of the mouth.
G) CIRCULATORY DISORDERS
Neem leaf extracts have been
shown to reduce clotting, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, slow rapid heartbeat and inhibit irregularities of the rhythms of the heart/arrhythmia.
H) NERVOUS DISORDERS
Neem has shown to produce lower activity, respiratory rate, muscle tone passivity as well as dose-dependent
hypothermia (Gandhi, 1988); (Singh, 1986).
Nimbidin in neem has a mild suppressive effect on the central nervous system. It can reduce stress and anxiety, insomnia, pain, headache and Epilepsy.
I) GENERAL CONDITIONS
Diabetes - Neem has been
scientifically proven effective in treating and preventing diabetes. Neem reduced insulin requirements for diabetes without apparent effect on blood glucose level.
Arthritis - The phenolic compounds containing catechin (known to possess anti-inflammatory properties) may produce the anti-inflammatory effects. The polysaccharides reduce the inflammation and swelling associated with arthritis.
Cancer - Neem can prevent the adhesion of cancer cells in
the body.
Allergies - Neem inhibits allergies reactions when applied externally and internally.
Neem - the only herb that has been patented
The potential of neem is so great that even the Americans patented neem. One of the patents by the Americans was successfully reversed by the Indians. But even today there are 40 patent applications at various stages in Europe and 90 have been granted world wide for various aspects.
