Content

EUSOL I : Chlorinated lime ......................... 25 gm/L

EUSOL II : Sodium acetate ......................... 6.8 gm/L

                   Acetic acid glacial ..................... 12.0 ml/L

 

Indications

For use as an antiseptic wound dressing and cleansing agent.

 

Pharmacology

Chlorinated lime on exposure to air, it becomes moist and gradually decomposes, carbon dioxide being absorbed and chlorine evolved. It is decomposed by hydrochloric acid with evolution of available chlorine, upon its value depends. It is not used internally.

 

Contraindication

Antimicrobial activity of chlorine is reduced by the presence of organic material.

 

Precaution

Topically applied, chlorinated lime may dissolve blood clots and cause bleeding. For external use only. It has a bleaching action.

 

Dosage and Administration

Used externally. Add EUSOL I into equal amount of EUSOL II before using as an antiseptic wound dressing. The mixture should be used within 2 weeks of its preparation.

 

Treatment of overdosage

If the solution has been ingested, gastric lavage or an emetic should be employed and a purgative dose of magnesium sulphate given. The patient should be kept warm and treatment for shock. Convulsion may be controlled by diazepam.

 

Storage conditions

Keep container tightly closed.

Store in a dry place below 30C.

Protect from light.
