Contents: Metocloparmide
Indications:
Adjunct to X-ray exam of stomach
& duodenum to assist in intestinal intubation. Nausea & vomiting associated with
drugs, uraemia, radiation sickness, malignant disease, post-operative vomiting.
Gastric retention after gastric surgery, pylorospasm.
Contraindications:
Whenever stimulation of GI
motility might be dangerous, eg intestinal obstruction; pheochromocytoma,
epilepsy.
Special precautions:
Children & young patients;
pregnancy, lactation; diabetes, depression; patients taking other drugs that
can also cause extraphyramidal reactions.
Adverse reactions:
Extraphyramidal reactions,
dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, headache, depression.
Drug interactions:
Effects antagonised by
anticholinergics & narcotic analgesics. Increased sedation with CNS
depressants. Absorption of drugs ( digoxin cimetidine ) may be impaired &
absortpion from small intestine increased (paracetamol, tetracyclines,
levodopa). Insulin require may be altered due to change in timing of food
delivery to intestines.
