Contents:

Ranitidine HCI

 

Indications:

150 mg/300 mg tab Duodenal ulcer & benign gastric ulcer; prevention of NSAID associated duodenal ulcers. Treatment of post-op ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrone & oesophageal reflux disease, & conditions where reduction of gastric secretion & acid output is desirable.

 

EVT tab Duodenal & gastric ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, treatment adjunct in RA for relief of GI symptoms associated with NSAIDs, reflux oesophagitis, stress ulcers, short-bowel (anastomosis) syndrome, prophylaxis of GI haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients, prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers & before GA in patients at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's syndrome), especially obstetric patients during labour, hypersecretory states associated with systemic mastocytosis or basophilic leukemia with hyperhistaminemia.

 

Dosage:

150 mg/300 mg tab Adult 150 mg bd.

Duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, oesophageal reflux Single bedtime dose of 300 mg. Maintenance: 150 mg at bedtime or for oesophageal reflux disease 150 mg bd or 300 mg at bedtime for 8-12 week.

Severe oesophagitis 150 mg qds for up to 12 week.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 150 mg tds. Max: 6 g/day.

Chronic episodic dyspepsia 150 mg bd for up to 6 week.

Patients at risk of acid aspiration syndrome 150 mg 2 hr before induction of general anaesthetic & also 150 mg the previous evening.

 

EVT tab

Duodenal/gastric ulcer 150 mg bd for at least 4 week. Maintenance: 150 mg nocte.

Prophylaxis against duodenal ulceration 150 mg bd during therapy with NSAIDs.

GERD 150 mg bd for max 8 week.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 150 mg bd-tds. max: 6 g daily.

Prophylaxis of GI haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients, prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers 150 mg bd.

 

Special Precautions:

Severe cirrhosis  severe renal impairment, hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.

 

Adverse Reactions:

Hepatitis with or without jaundice. Acute pancreatitis. Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia. Bradycardia & AV block. Headache, dizziness, rare cases of reversible mental confusion, depression & hallucinations. Rash, arthralgia & myalgia, gynaecomastia.

 

Drug Interactions:

Phenytoin, warfarin, theophylline, nifedipine & alcohol. Antacids, procainamide.

 

Presentation/Packing:

Tab 150 mg x 10 x 10's. 300 mg x 5 x 10's.

EVT effervescent tab ( Coolmint flavour) 150 mg x 10's.
