Contents:

Indomethacin

 

Indications :

Musculoskeletal & arthritic disorders : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including juvenile RA, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lumbago, gout degenerative joint disease of the hip, inflammatory, pain & swelling following orthopedic surgery or dental procedures; pain  symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea.

 

Dosage :

Adult Oral 50 mg to a max of 200 mg daily in divided doses taken with food, milk or antacid.

Children > 2 years 2 mg/kg/day in divided doses two-three times daily. Increase weekly as required. Max daily dosage : 150-200 mg/day or 4 mg/kg/day, whichever is less.

 

Contraindications:

Asthmatic attacks, urticaria or rhinitis precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs; active peptic ulcer or history of gastrointestinal (GI) ulceration. Use of suppository not recommended in patients with history of proctitis or renal bleeding. Pregnancy, lactation, hypersensitivity to any component.

 

Special Precautions:

Elderly. In case of persistent headache, dizziness or light-headedness or GI bleeding, discontinue therapy. Psychiatric disturbances ( including patients on lithium), epilepsy or parkinsonism, cardiac dysfunction, hypertension or renal impairment. May mask signs & symptoms of infection. Hyperkalemia with or without renal impairment has occurred. Suppository may cause tenesmus & irritation of rectal mucosa.

 

Adverse Reactions:

GI upsets, headache, dizziness, vertigo, somnolence, depression, fatigue & tinnitus.

 

Drug interactions:

Diflunisal or salicylates, methotrexate & probenecid.

 

Presentation/Packing:

Cap 25 mg x 100's, 500's.

Supp 100 mg x 5's, 25's.

Indocid-R Cap 75 mg x 100's.
