Kaolin and pectin
mixture
Product description
White mixture with peppermint flavour.
Composition
Active ingredient :
Light Kaolin 1 g / 5 ml
Pectin 50 mg / 5 ml
Preservative:
Benzoic Acid 0.2% w/v
Pharmacology / pharmacokinetic
Kaolin and Pectin when given by mouth, absorbs toxic and other substances
from the alimentary tract and increases the bulk of the faeces. It is
employed in the symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal condition
associated with diarrhoea.
Kaolin and Pectin is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Large
amounts of Kaolin and Pectin is eliminated unchanged.
Indication
For symptomatic relief of diarrhoea.
Recommended dosage :
Adults : 15ml to 45ml.
Children : 6 to 12 years : 10ml
to 20ml, to be taken after each bowel movement or as directed by the
physicians. ( 1 teaspoonful is equal to about 5 ml )
Do not use this product for more
than 2 days unless directed by a physician.
WARNING
Kaolin-Pectin is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
Severe constipation, which may lead to faecal impaction, may rarely occur in
children and elderly patients taking Kaolin and Pectin.
Precautions
Appropriate fluid and electrolyte therapy should be given to protect against
dehydration. Oral rehydration therapy - which is the use of appropriate
fluids including Oral Rehydration Salts – remains the most effective
treatment for dehydration due to diarrhoea. The intake of as much of these
fluids as possible is therefore imperative.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with spastic bowel condition.
Drug interactions
Kaolin and pectin may interfere
with the absorption of other drugs, including antibiotics, when administered
concurrently.
Side effects
Kaolin and Pectin are well
tolerated if taken according to the recommended dosage.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
Safety for sue during pregnancy
and breast feeding have not been fully established.
Toxicity
Kaolin and Pectin is well
tolerated.

Keep below 30°C.

Do not use after the expiry date
