MECHANISMS OF ACTION
Neomycin Sulpahte
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside
which is actively transported across the bacterial cell membrane where it
binds to a specific receptor protein on the 30 S subunit of bacterial
ribosomes. neomycin is bacteriocidal.
Polymyxin B Sulphate
Polymyxin B is bacteriocidal and
active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other gram-negative
bacteria.
Gramicidin
Gramicidin act as a cationic
detergent.
DOSAGE
Antibacterial
1 drop, to the conjunctiva, every
15 to 30 minutes initially, the frequency being reduced gradually depending
on patient response.
Other infections
1 drop, to the conjunctiva, 2 to
4 times a day (or more frequently if required) for 7 to 10 days.

Do not touch tip to any surface.
Discard unused portion after
compliance to full therapy.
PHARMACOLOGY (summary of pharmacodynamic and pharmacominetics)
Neomycin and Polymyxin B may be
absorbed following topical application to the eye if tissue damage is
present. Gramicidin is not significantly absorbed.
TOXICOLOGY (BRIEF)
Problems involving reproduction,
pregnancy and breast-feeding have not been documented in humans. No
paediatric and geriatric specific problems have been reported to date.
INDICATIONS
Pocin G Eye Drops are used in the treatment and prevention of external
bacterial infections of the eye including conjunctivitis, blepharitis,
keratitis, corneal ulcers, styes, abrasions and lacerations. The
antibacterial range of the antibiotics covers practically all bacteria
likely to occur in the eye.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Pocin G Eye Drops should not be used in patients with sensitivity to
neomycin, polymyxin B and gramicidin.
SIDE EFFECTS / ADVERSE
REACTIONS
Hypersensitivity reactions have
been reported following application of Pocin G eye drops. Less frequently,
burning or stinging of the eye occurs.
PRECAUTIONS / WARNINGS
Prolonged use may result in
posterior subcapsular cataract formation and glaucoma with raised
opticocular pressure. Perforation has been known to occur in patients with
disease causing thinning of the cornea. Safety on intensive or prolonged use
of topical steroids during pregnancy has not been substantiated. Extensive
use may lead to systemic effects
