Prospan Cough

Active ingredient Dried Ivy
Leaf Extract
Composition Active
ingredient: 100ml solution contain 0.7g of fried ivy leaf extract (5 -
7.5:1), [extractive agent: ethanol 30% (w/w)], 0.134g of potassium sorbate
(preservative). Other
ingredients: Anhydrous citric acid, xanthan gum, aroma, sorbitol
solution 70%. 2.5ml of solution contain 0.963g of the sugar substitute
sorbitol=0.08BU
Indications Traditionally
used for relief of cough, throat irritation and reducing phlegm.
Contraindications In the
event of fructose intolerance, treatment should be carried out only after
consultation with a doctor.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Medicines should generally be taken during pregnancy and breast-feeding only
after having previously consulted a doctor.
Side effects In rare cases,
Prospan Cough Syrup may have a laxative effect due to the content of
sorbitol in the product.
Interactions with other drugs
Adverse effect have not become known with the simultaneous ingestion of
Prospan Cough Syrup and other medicines. This preparation can therefore be
combined safely with other medicines, such as antibiotics for example.
Dosage guidelines and method of use
Unless otherwise prescribed, infants and small children take 1 teaspoonful 3
times daily, schoolchildren and adolescents take 2 teaspoonsful 3 times
daily and adults take 2-3 teaspoonsful of solution 3 times daily.
Duration of use
Duration of treatment depends on
the type and severity of the clinical picture; however, treatment should
last for at least one week. Treatment with Prospan Cough Syrup should be
maintained for 2-3 days after symptoms have subsided, in order to ensure
lasting success of therapy. In the event of persistent complaints or the
appearance of shortness of breath, fever as well as purulent or bloody
expectoration, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
Storage instructions and shelf life
Store below 25°C. Prospan Cough Syrup should not be used after the expiry
date.
