Red Chicken Brand
Fever mixture
Description and Active Ingredient
Red Chickens Brand Fever Mixture
is a clear, light-golden coloured liquid containing paracetamol in quantity
of 120 mg in 5 ml.
Pharmacological Information
The active ingredient,
paracetamol, reduces minor pain and fever. Pain is caused by the body
producing a chemical substance called Postaglandins. As paracetamol can stop
the body from producing this substance, pain is reduced. Paracetamol is also
able to act on the heat regulatory organ located in the brain to produce
more heat loss during fever, resulting in the normalization of the body
temperature.
After ingestion, paracetamol is
quickly absorbed within 10 to 60 minutes. It takes effect within this time
period. About 95% of absorbed paracetamol is converted to excreatable
by-products in the liver and passed out in the urine. Only 5% passed out in
the unchanged form.
Indication
For the relief of fever, mild to
moderate pain (Headache, teething pain) and discomfort due to common cold
and flu.

Side effects of paracetamol is
usually mild. Inflammation of the pancreas, skin rashes and allergic
reactions occur occasionally. There have been reports of charges relating to
blood cells.

saline purgative should be given to promote peristalsis. Avoid suing
activated charcoal, as it will interfere with the absorption of N-acetylcisteine
later.
N-acetylcisteine is given as an
antidote and must be administered within ten hours after ingestion. The oral
