What is is in Sedilix-DM
Linctus ?
The active ingredient of Sedilix-DM
Linctus are Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Pseudoephedrin Hydrochloride and
Promethazine Hydrocholoride.
Sedlix-DM Linctus contains Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 15mg,
Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride 30mg and Promethazine Hydrochloride 3.125mg in
each 5ml of syrup. Also contains Parabens 0.125%w/v as preservative.
Destromethorphan is a cough suppressant, Pseudoephedrine is a nasal
decongestant and Promethzine is an antihistamine. Sedilix-DM Linctus is a
cough and cold mixture that used for the relief of resistant, dry and
unproductive cough.
Sedilix-DM Linctus is a brown clear syrup with cheery flavour. This syrup
liquid is available in pack sizes of 90ml and 120ml.
What is Sedilix-DM Linctus
used for ?
Sedilix-DM Linctus is indicated
for the relief of dry irritating coughs such as those associated with common
cold or upper respiratory tract infections.
Sedilix-DM Linctus helps to relieve nasal congestion, sneezing and
rhinorrhoea associated with allergy and the common cold.
Sedilix-DM Linctus is for short term use only. If symptoms persist longer
than 7 days or accompanied by fever, consult a physician.
How much and how often should
you use Sedilix-DM Linctus ?
Adults and children above 12
years : 10ml every 6 hours
Children 6 to 12 years : 5ml
every 6 hours
Children 2 to 5 years : 2.5ml
every 6 hours
Extreme care should be taken in giving an accurate dose of medicine
because overdoses have been reported to cause serious adverse events. It is
highly recommended that a measuring cup, spoon or syringe ( which can be
obtained from the pharmacy ) be used to administer dose.
When should you not take this
medicine ?
Sedilix-DM Linctus should not be
taken for persistent or chronic cough ( eg with smoking, emphysema, asthma )
or when coughing is accompanied by excessive secretions unless directed by
doctor.
Not for use in patient suffering from severe high blood pressure and
severe coronary artery disease ( heart disease caused by poor blood flow or
narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart )
You should not use this medicine if you have high blood pressure, heart
condition, angle closure glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy or hyperthyroidism (
a thyroid disease ). Please check with your doctor if you have any of the
above conditions.
Sedilix-DM Linctus should be avoided in patients with liver disease or
asthmatic patients and is contraindicated in patients taking monoamine
oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment, known
hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine, promethazine, dextromethorphan and any
ingredient of this product and during acute attacks of asthma.
As with all medicines, use in pregnancy is best avoided unless necessary,
where close medical supervision is required. Do not take this medicine
during pregnancy or breast feeding, before consulting your doctor or
pharmacist.
Special Warnings
Sedilix-DM Linctus is strictly
not to be used for infants six months of age and younger.
It is also not recommended for children below 2 years old because younger
children are more prone to serious side-effects of promethazine.
Sedilix-DM Linctus is also to be used with caution in children 2 years
and older.
As the preparations may cause drowsiness, adult patients should be
advised against driving or operating machinery and to avoid consuming
alcoholic drinks while on this medication.
This medicine may cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun
especially if you have eczema or a tendency to rheumatism. You should
protect your skin from exposure to strong sunlight.
If you are taking other medicines, going for a laboratory test or
suffering from other medical conditions, consult your doctor or pharmacist
before taking this medicine.
If symptoms do not improve within one week, or if symptoms are
accompanied with high fever, consult your doctor before continuing use.
Does Sedilix-DM Linctus have
side effects ?
A medicine may cause side effects
in certain individuals. If you experience side effects and are concerned,
you should seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Sedilix-DM Linctus may cause drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.
Other side effects that may occur include stomach upset, diarrhoea, loss
of appetite, nausea or vomiting, blurred vision and tinnitus ( ringing or
buzzing in ears ).
Other less common side-effects may include fever, breathing difficulty,
jaundice ( yellow tinge to skin or eyes ), tremors or convulsions, transient
hypertension, dry mouth, insomnia, restlessness, irregular heart beat,
allergic reactions such as rashes, tightness of chest, thickening or
bronchial secretions, toxic psychosis and blood dyscrasia.
What other medicine or food
should be avoided whilst taking Sedilix-DM Linctus ?
Avoid using alcohol, sleeping
pills, medicines for reducing anxiety and tension or any other medicines
that suppress breathing.
What should you do if you miss
a dose ?
If you are taking this medicine
regularly and miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is
almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your
regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose
that you have missed.
How should you keep Sedilix-DM

25°C, in a safe place and out of reach of children.
What are the symptoms of
overdose and what to do when you have taken more than the recommended dosage
?
Symptoms of overdose include
over-excitement, shaky and unsteady movements, convulsions and/or tremors
hallucinations, difficulty in breathing, drowsiness, unconscious, fixed
dilated pupils with a flushed face and fever.
If you experience any of the symptoms, or if you have taken more than the
recommended dose, seek immediate medical attention.
When should you consult your
doctor ?
You need to consult a doctor when
:
* you experience common side
effects that bother you and serious side effects that need urgent
medical attention.
* you have taken this
medicine for 7-10 days in a row and your condition is not improving.
* you have taken an overdose
of the medicine.
