Contents:

Haloperidol

 

Indications:

Control of psychotic manifestation, mania, hypomania & schizophrenia.

 

Dosage:

Tab Adult Initially 10-15 mg daily & reduce gradually. Maintenance : 1-10 mg daily.

Anxiety & tension states 0.5-1 mg daily. Children < 3 years Not recommended. Maintenance: 0.05 mg/kg body weight daily.

Injection Adult 10 mg 6 hourly until control is achieved. Children As for tab dosage.

 

Contraindications:

Comatose states, central nervous system (CNS) depression, Parkinson's disease, patients with lesions of the basal ganglia, lactation.

 

Special Precautions:

Epilepsy, thyrotoxicosis, pregnancy. Use of lithium salts with high dose of haloperidol. Patients receiving combined therapy must be closely monitored, if signs of neurologic toxicity appear, discontinue.

 

Adverse Reactions:

Neurological, CNS, cardiovascular (CV), endocrine, hematological & dermatological effects, persistent tardive dyskinesia.

 

Drug interactions:

CNS depressants, methyldopa, anticonvulsants, phenindione, coumarin anticoagulant.

 

Presentation/Packing

Tab 0.5 mg x 100's, 500's. 1.5 mg x 50's, 1000's. 5 mg x 500's.

Ampoules 5 mg/mL x 10's.
