Tussides Forte

Linctus

Non-sedative, Alcohol and Sugar-free

 

Composition

Each 5 ml contains:

Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide ........ 15 mg

Contains parabens 0.125% w/v as preservative

 

Uses

Tussidex Forte is indicated for the relief of resistant, dry and unproductive cough for adults and children. It is non-sedative and free of alcohol. As it does not contain sugar, it may be suitable for diabetic use.

 

Dosage and Administration

Adult and children over 12 years :

5 to 10 ml every 4 hours

( not exceeding 40 ml in 24 hours )

 

Children 6 to 12 years :

2.5 to 5 ml every 4 hours

( not exceeding 20 ml in 24 hours )

 

Children 2 to 5 years :

1.25 to 2.5 ml every 4 hours

( not exceeding 10 ml in 24 hours )

 

Contraindications

Do not use in patients receiving the antidepressant monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within two weeks after treatment is stopped.

 

Warnings and Precautions

Avoid alcoholic drinks while on this medication. Unless directed by the physician, Tussidex Forte should not be given for persistent or chronic cough associated with smoking, emphysema or asthma; or when coughing is accompanied by excessive secretions. Tussidex Forte should be used with caution in patients with impaired hepatic function or asthma. Use in pregnant mothers should be carefully assessed; avoid unnecessary use of medication where possible during pregnancy.

 

Not to be used in children below 2 years old.

 

To be used with cautions, and as advised by the physician/pharmacist for children age 2 to 6 years.

 

Drug Interactions

Possible reactions systemically may occur with mexiletine, domperidone, metoclopramide, certain hypnotics and anxiolytic medication and alcohol.

 

Side Effects

Tussidex Forte is usually well-tolerated. Occasionally, gastrointestinal disturbances and in very hgh doses, respiratory depression may occur.

 

Overdosage

Massive overdosage may produce respiratory depression. Treatment may include aspiration and gastric lavage followed by general supportive and symptomatic treatment.

 

Shelf-Life

3 years from the date of manufacture.

Storage

Store in a cool place below 30°C.
