Important warning sign of heart disease

Impotence may be frustrating, but if you pay attention, you could save your sex life -- and your heart. Episodes of impotence could be an early warning of heart disease.

Researchers looked at test results of men who were impotent and found that 40 percent of them had significant blockages in their heart arteries. This is associated with an increased risk of heart attack, even though none of the men had symptoms of heart disease.

Because the arteries that supply the penis are small, they may be among the first to be affected by blockages that could later affect heat arteries.

The men in the study were lucky that their heart disease was discovered early. And many of them found that when they stopped smoking or lowered their cholesterol levels, their impotence went away.

So if you're normally sexually active and begin having problems, see your doctor.
