Researchers looked at test results of men who were impotent and found
that 40 percent of them had significant blockages in their heart arteries.
This is associated with an increased risk of heart attack, even though none
of the men had symptoms of heart disease.
Because the arteries that supply the penis are small, they may be among
the first to be affected by blockages that could later affect heat arteries.
The men in the study were lucky that their heart disease was discovered
early. And many of them found that when they stopped smoking or lowered
