Argentite
ARGENTITE, ACANTHITE, SILVER SULPHIDE
Silver nitrate is extracted from
argentite for its anti-bacterial and caustic properties. In orthodox medicine,
it is applied to warts but is now considered too toxic for its previous wider
uses. It remains key homeopathic remedy for many conditions, including dizziness
and headaches.
Argentite is the most important source of silver and can be so easily formed into a
shape that it was originally used to make coins. Coins minted in Jachymov,
Czechoslovakia, where it occurs naturally, were called "Joachimsthalergulden", which
is the origin of the word dollar.
