The Chinese angelica is related to our European angelica and has comparable antispasmodic properties but with important additions. As well as relaxing cramps and tension, its warming properties also clear congestion and improve circulation and its nutritive tonifying properties actually improve the quality of the blood. This makes it invaluable for women as it both eases symptoms of the monthly cycle ad rebuilds the blood in its aftermath. However, it is not only for women. Dong quai benefits anyone who needs to strengthen the quality and circulation of blood -- those with anaemia or symptoms of tiredness -- or suffer from cramping pains and tension. It is good added to wound blends as it eases pain while improving circulation of blood to speedily resolve bruising and swelling : this makes it a good recovery medicine for any injury or surgery.
