BAJIAO BANANA, BA JIAO

 

The Japanese banana, ba jiao (bajiao banana) is also called da jiao (great banana) and ya jiao (tooth banana). It is a large herbaceous plant, growing to a height of 2-3 meters, with a very large leaf.


The fruit is cylindrical or an elongated oval, straight rather than bent and the peaks are thin and hard.

 

It generally grows 90-120 mm long and 30-40 mm in diameter. The outer surface of the skin is bare, smooth and yellow. The flesh is soft and the flavor sweet.

In the centre of the fruit are many brown-black seeds. The fruit has a ripening period right through summer and autumn. Its nature is cool.

The fruit is nutritious, can lubricate the intestines, benefit the lungs and lower blood pressure. It contains starch, carbohydrate, fruit gum, fat, etc.

APPLICATIONS

1. NUTRITION FOR THE AGED, BABIES AND PEOPLE CONVALESCING AFTER PROLONGED ILLNESS. Take 1-2 pieces of fresh fruit, discard the skin and eat. Do this once a day for a long period.

2. WEAKNESS AFTER ILLNESS WITH CONSTIPATION.. Take 2-3 pieces of ripe fresh fruit, discard the skin and eat. Do this every day both in the morning and in the evening.

3. CHRONIC COUGH. Take 1 piece of peeled fruit and 1 slice of fresh ginger. Steam with water in a sealed container, mash and serve. Do this daily both in the morning and in the evening.

4. SIGNS OF IMPENDING MISCARRIAGE. Take 1-2 pieces of fresh fruit, discard the skin and eat. Do this in the morning and again in the evening.

5. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. Take 30-40 grams of the dried fruit skin or the dried stalk, cover with water, simmer, and drink in the place of tea.

6. BREAST INFLAMMATION, MASTITIS; BOILS. Take 1-2 pieces of fresh fruit, mash and spread on the affected part. Change the dressing 3 times a day.

WARNING

If suffering from stomach ulcers or hyperacidity do not eat this fruit.
