Kaolin
KAOLIN, HYDRATED ALUMINIUM SILICATE
A fine white clay used internally
in orthodox medicine for diarrhoea and externally to reduce swelling and
pain. it is also the base for many medical dusting powders.
Named after the Kao-Ling mountain in northern China,
where it was first identified, this fine white clay was introduced to Europe in 1712 and was later
mined worldwide for use in porcelain. It is also widely known as an ingredient of the
anti-diarrhoeal pharmaceutical preparation, kaolin and morphine.

ACTIONS
Absorbs toxic substances; anti-inflammatory.
MEDICINAL USE
Widely used as a basis for medicinal
dusting powders. Also given internally in orthodox medicine for diarrhoea,
to absorb harmful substances in the intestine and increase the bulk of faeces,
and applied externally as a poultice to reduce swelling and pain.
