Montmorillonite
FULLER'S EARTH
The powdered mineral is made into
dusting powders and given to absorb harmful substances after poisoning.
Montmorillonite is a soft rock named after Montmorillon in France,
where there are rich deposits. With silica it makes fuller's earth, a name that comes from the use of the clay to "full" cloth,
the process of treading cloth with the powdered rock to cleanse and thicken it.
PARTS USED
Rock, ground and cleaned.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Aluminium silicate.
ACTIONS
Absorbent.
MEDICINAL USE
Applied externally in powders when
a drying effect is wanted, for example, in weeping skin conditions. Given after poisoning to help absorb harmful substances.
