Pine Cone Seeds
Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc.,
SONG ZI REN
Pine cone seeds, song zi ren
(pine seed kernels) are also called song zi (pine seeds). An evergreen tree
growing 10-30 meters. The seeds are an elongated egg shape and have a wing.
Inside is the edible kernel, it is egg shaped and about 10 mm long. In color
it is pale dusty brown and contains abundant oil.
The flavor is slight, but sweet and fragrant. The seeds are gathered from
the beginning of autumn, their nature is warm.
The seeds are nutritious, moisten the lungs and lubricate the intestines.
They contain carbohydrates, protein, oil, calcium, phosphorous, iron,
palmatine, volatile oils, etc.
APPLICATIONS
1. LUNGS, DRY FEELING WITH COUGH. Take one (Chinese) soup spoon of pine and
walnut kernel tonic every day 3 times.
2. CHRONIC CONSTIPATION. Take 15 grams of pine kernels (fresh or stir-fried)
and eat them daily, both in the morning and in the evening.
Alternatively take a (Chinese) soup spoon of pine and walnut kernel 3 times
a day till the condition improves.
3. WEAKNESS AND LOSS OF WEIGHT AFTER AN ILLNESS. Take one (Chinese) soup
spoon of pine and walnut kernel tonic (see below) every evening before bed.
Continue until an improvement can be seen.
4. HEMORRHOIDS, BLEEDING AND SORE. Take 3-6 grams of fresh pine kernels and
chew them. Do this daily, 2-3 times.
5. CHILBLAINS. Take 30 grams of kernels and crush them. Add sufficient
vegetable oil to blend into a paste. Spread this on the affected area.
Replace daily.
PREPARATIONS
PINE AND WALNUT KERNEL TONIC. Take 500 grams of pine kernels and 500 grams
of walnut kernels and crush them into a paste. Add 250 grams of candied
honey, blend together and steam till cooked. The tonic is then ready.
