Pineapple, bo luo

Pineapple

Ananas comosus, BO LUO

 

The pineapple, bo luo, is also called feng li (phoenix pear), and di bo luo (earth pineapple). It is a herbaceous plant that lives for many years and grows to a height of 400-500mm. The fruit contains a large amount of edible flesh. It is shaped like an elongated ball or cylinder, 120-200mm long and 90-130mm in diameter.

The surface is yellow-red and rough, covered with 'eyes'. In the centre of each eye is a flexible thorn-like hair. The flesh is pale yellow with a fragrant smell. It has a sweet flavor and contains a lot of juice.

The fruit ripens in the summer and autumn, its nature is neither hot nor cold. The pineapple helps maintain a healthy spleen, relieves thirst, reduces swelling and removes wind-wetness evil.

The pineapple contains carbohydrate, protein, starch, fat, vitamins B1, B2, C, carotene, nicotinic acid, calcium, phosphorous, iron, organic acids, pineapple enzymes, etc.

APPLICATIONS
1. INDIGESTION WITH VOMITING AND SWOLLEN STOMACH. Take 250 grams of peeled fruit, slice it and eat it, or squeeze out the juice and drink it. Do this twice a day.


2. LOW BLOOD PRESSURE WITH DIZZINESS; LACK OF STRENGTH IN HANDS AND FEET. Take 250 grams of peeled fruit and slice it, 60 grams of chicken meat and some salt and pepper, plus some cooking oil. Stir-fry until cooked and eat at one sitting.

3. WEAKNESS, WITH FEVER AND THIRST. Take 250 grams of peeled fruit, crush and squeeze out the juice. Add one cup of cool boiled water and a little salt. Do this twice a day.

4. DROPSY; DYSURIA, DIFFICULTY IN URINATING. Take 250 grams of peeled fruit, slice and eat. Do this 2-3 times a day.

PREPARATION.

After peeling the fruit remove the 'eyes' before serving.

WARNING
Do not eat pineapple if suffering from eczema or boils.

 

NOTES

1. Before eating the sliced fruit it may be soaked in slated water, this will prevent the mouth and tongue feeling slightly irritated.

 

2. Pineapple enzyme ahs been used in the treatment of inflammation, dropsy, thrombosis, etc.
