Raspberry
Rubus corchorifolius Linn., SHU MEI
The raspberry, shu mei (tree berry) is also called tuo pan (serving tray).
It is a deciduous shrub growing to a height of 1-2 metres. The fruit is
round and composed of a cluster of small fruit, its diameter about 10mm. It
ripens at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. When ripe the fruit
is dark red and full of juice, the flavour acid-sweet. Its nature is warm.
The fruit can rejuvenate the liver and kidneys, prevent nocturnal emission
and reduce excessive urine. It contains carbohydrate, vitamin C, malic acid,
citric acid, salicylic acid, fruit gum, etc.
APPLICATIONS
1. INDIGESTION; SWOLLEN STOMACH WITH VOMITING AND DIARRHOEA. Take 15 grams
of fresh fruit, wash clean and eat. Do this daily, twice a day.
2. SEMINAL EMISSION; IMPOTENCE. Take 30 grams of dried fruit and 15 grams of
ovum of mantis (Ootheca Mantidis). Stir-fry till golden, then crush into
small particles. Divide into 3 parts. Every evening serve one part mixed
with rice wine*.

3. INCONTINENCE; FREQUENT MICTURITION (URINATING). Use dried fruit, 15 grams
for children, 30 grams for adults. Stir-fry until golden, then add water and
simmer. Prepare and serve this every night before going to bed.
4. ECZEMA; DERMATITIS; ALLERGIC PRURITUS; SCABIES. Take 250 grams of fresh
fruit or an appropriate measure of dried fruit. Add water and simmer till
reduced to a thick liquid. Use this to wash the affected parts several times
a day.
