Sand Pear
Pyrus pyrifolia, SHA LI
The sand pear, sha li, is also
called li guo (pear fruit). The tree grows to 5-10 meters. The fruit is ball
shaped (not pear shaped) with a diameter of 50-90 mm. The skin is red-brown
or green-white. The fruit flesh is somewhat hard and comparatively coarse,
containing a lot of juice. The flavor may be sweet or acid-astringent. It
ripens at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Its nature is cool,
and it contains no poison.
The fruit can moisten the lungs, quench thirst, relieve heartburn, calm
restlessness and relieve hangovers. It contains sucrose, glucose, fructose,
malic acid, vitamins B, C, etc.
APPLICATIONS
1. BURNING FEELING IN THE LUNGS WITH A COUGH; FEVER AND THIRST. Take 2-4
pieces of fresh fruit, crush, squeeze and obtain the juice. Drink this in
the morning and again in the evening every day.
2. INDIGESTION; CHEST AND STOMACH SWOLLEN WITH LOSS OF APPETITE. Take half
or one piece of pickled pear, discard the skin and serve. Wait for at least
4 hours before taking another piece.
3. THROAT INFLAMMATION WITH DIFFICULTY IN SWALLOWING. Take 2 pieces of
pickled pear, crush and squeeze to obtain the juice. Slowly sip and swallow.
Do this in the morning and again in the evening.
4. HANGOVER. Take 1-2 pieces of pickled pear, discard the skin and slowly
chew. Alternatively squeeze the fruit to obtain the liquid and drink this.
5. URINE, FEELING OF SLIGHT BLOCKAGE; URINE DARK IN COLOUR, ASTRINGENT
FEELING WHEN URINATING. Take 60 grams of dried pear skin, simmer in water
and serve. Take this every day, 3 times.
PREPARATIONS
PICKLED PEAR. Take fresh pears, including the skin, and soak in rice
vinegar. After some days they are ready to use.
