CENTIPEDE

 

Powdered whole centipede is used in Chinese prescriptions for covulsions, spasms and lockjaw, and to counter poisoning. It is also applied externally for carbuncles, sores and lumps.

 

Found throughout the world, centipedes have a moderately poisonous bite. This species is an ingredient in several Chinese prescriptions.

Whole centipede.

 

 

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

D-hydroxylysine.

 

ACTIONS

Antifungal; sedative; anti-tumour.

 

MEDICINAL USE

In Chinese medicine, it is given internally to counter poisoning, and for spasms, convulsions, and lockjaw. It is applied externally to soften and disperse sores and lumps, including cancers, particularly on the neck.

 

PREPARATIONS

Powder, pills, infusion.

Avoid in pregnancy.
