Description
While most species of the
foxglove family grow in temperate regions, a few plant exist in tropical
areas, growing as small trees or shrubs. Foxglove is best known for its use
in the manufacture of digitalis, a major heart medicine.

Traditional rain forest use
The people of certain provinces
in Ecuador used the tea of the Scoparia plant -- a member of the
foxglove family -- to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling. The Tikuna
tribe bathed wounds with the tea and women sometimes drank its decoction for
three days during the menstrual cycle.
