Strawberry
Fragaria Chiloensis, CHILOE
STRAWBERRY, CAO MEI
The strawberry, cao mei (literally straw-berry) is also called da cao mei
(great strawberry). It is a long lived herbaceous plant, and is covered with
fine hairs. The fruit is round or egg-shaped with a diameter of 20-33 mm. It
ripens in the summer and autumn.
The immature fruit is green and changes to a fresh red color when ripe. It
contains abundant juice, has a fragrant perfume and a sweet-acid flavor. It
has a cool nature and contains no poison.
The fruit can moisten the lungs, promote the secretion of saliva and body
fluids, improve the spleen and relieve the effects of alcohol. It contains
carbohydrate, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorous, iron, etc.
APPLICATIONS
1. LACK OF PHLEGM WITH A DRY COUGH, PERSISTING FOR SEVERAL DAYS. Take 60
grams of fresh fruit and 30 grams of sugar, cover with water, simmer and
mash. Serve daily, 3 times a day.
2. FEVER AND THIRST; SORE SWOLLEN THROAT AND HOARSENESS. Take some fresh
fruit, wash it clean then squeeze to obtain the juice. Drink one cup in the
morning and one in the evening.
3. PAINFUL INDIGESTION WITH SWOLLEN STOMACH; LACK OF APPETITE. Take 60 grams
of fresh fruit and eat 3 times a day before meals.
4. VITAMIN C DEFICIENCY. Take 60 grams of fresh fruit, wash clean and eat.
do this in the morning and in the evening.
5. URINATING, PAINFUL AND ASTRINGENT, URINE DARK IN COLOR. Take 60 grams of
fresh fruit, crush and mix with a cup of cold boiled water. Drink this
daily, 3 times a day.
6. HANGOVER. Take 90-150 grams of fresh fruit, wash clean and eat.
7. MALNUTRITION; WEAKNESS AFTER ILLNESS; EMACIATED. Take 30-60 grams of
strawberry wine twice a day, drink in the morning and again in
the evening.
PREPARATION
STRAWBERRY WINE. Take fresh fruit and wash them clean, wrap in clean gauze
and squeeze to obtain the juice. Take an equal amount of
rice wine* and mix together to make
strawberry wine.
