AMBER

Amber is given in Chinese medicine in ground form to treat conditions ranging from insomnia to urine retention.

The fossilized gum of fir trees that lived up to 300 million years ago, amber has the property of taking on a small electric charge when rubbed, and can then pick up light objects. This led to the use of the Greek word for amber, elektron, to form the term "electricity". Honey-yellow or reddishbrown, amber has always been sought after as a gemstone, the most valuable amber coming from around the Baltic Sea. And, it will float on water and burn, like the wood it came from.
