AMBER
Amber is given in Chinese
medicine in ground form to treat conditions ranging from insomnia to urine
retention.
The fossilized gum of fir trees that lived up to 300 million years ago,
amber has the property of taking on a small electric charge when rubbed, and can then pick up light objects.
This led to the use of the Greek word for amber, elektron, to form the term "electricity".
Honey-yellow or reddishbrown, amber has always been sought after as a gemstone,
the most valuable amber coming from around the Baltic Sea. And, it will float on water and burn, like the wood it came from.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Succoxyabietic; succinosilvic
and succinoabietinolic acids.
ACTIONS
Sedative; increases urine production; stimulates menstruation; anti-infective.
MEDICINAL USE
Chinese physicians prescribe it for insomnia, anxiety,
forgetfulness, nervous seizures, for urinary retention or painful urination, to encourage menstruation, to reduce swelling, and to speed healing.
