Tomato
Lycopersicum esculentum, FAN QIE
The tomato, fan qie (foreign eggplant) is also called xi hong shi (western
red persimmon). It is an annual or longer living plant growing to about one
meter, more or less. The fruit may be round, a flattened ball, oval or egg
shaped, with an average diameter of 30-80 mm. It ripens in the summer and
autumn.
The outer surface is bare and smooth, the immature fruit is green and when
ripe changes to red or yellow-red. The fruit contains a lot of juice, the
flavor is slightly sweet or somewhat acid, its nature neither hot nor cold.
The fruit can clear fever, cool the blood, promote saliva and help
digestion. It contains sugar, protein, fat, calcium, phosphorous, iron,
citric acid, malic acid, tomato akaline, vitamins B1, B2, C, carotene,
nicotinic acid, etc.
APPLICATIONS
1. NIGHT BLINDNESS. Take 250 grams of fresh fruit and 60 grams of
pig liver. Cook together and eat. Do this daily.
2. BLEEDING GUMS. Take 60 grams of fresh fruit, dip in sugar and eat. Do
this twice daily.
3.. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE WITH BLEEDING FROM THE EYES. Take 60 grams of fresh
fruit and eat this daily, early in the morning, for 15 days.
4. DRY MOUTH WITH THIRST; LOSS OF APPETITE. Take 60-90 grams of fresh fruit
and eat. Alternatively combine the fruit with some lean pork and water,
simmer till cooked and eat the broth. Do this daily 1-2 times.
