Slimming herbs

SLIMMING is many a time considered only for cosmetic purposes. However, excess body weight is one of the most important risk factors for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, hypertension, arthritis, back pain, coronary heart disease, gall bladder disease, sleep apnea and Osteoarthritis of the knee joints.

Slimming is more than having an hourglass figure, it really is about health.

Obese or overweight ?
A person can be classified overweight if his or her body mass index (BMI) is more than 25. A person is considered obese if the BMI is more than 30. BMI is calculated by using the formula kg/m2, where "kg" is body weight and "m" stands for height in meters.

If you are overweight, your goal should be to achieve the ideal BMI ( between 18.5 and 25 ).

Your shape and health risk
Apple-shaped people are at greater health risk. If you have more weight around your waist, you have a greater risk of lifestyle-related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes than those with weight around their hips.

Pear-shaped people have lower health risk.

( Calculation for table: Waist circumference in inches divided by hip circumference in inches ).

Getting down to slimming
If one takes up a slimming regime, a good goal is to lose 23kg a month. Slower weight loss means it will be easier to keep it off. Ideally, losing weight means losing the excess body fat and not body fluid.

Crash courses are not healthy and more often, dieters lose water from the body instead of excess body fat.

There are other safer and more effective approaches to slim down through natural methods and herbs.

If ratio is 0.95 or lower If ratio is 0.8 or lower You are a pear

Slimming herb
Garcinia cambogia contains Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which is reported to reduce fat generation in the body and also suppresses absorption of fat from food intake and hence reduce body weight. Several studies in humans have provided supportive evidence for the efficacy of HCA in weight loss with no side effects. Garcinia limits the synthesis of fatty acids in the muscles and liver.

Some of the herbs known for their effectiveness in slimming are Garcinia cambogia, Trigonella foenum graecum, Gymnema sylvestre and Commiphora wightii.

People using Garcinia have experienced a curbed appetite, a tendency to "nibble" less and an increase in energy. In addition, Garcinia may cause the body to use existing fat stores for energy during prolonged exercise.

Sustained weight loss can only be achieved with a change in lifestyle. There are no quick fixes and, as you have probably noticed, any drastic weight loss is followed by the body gaining it back over a period of time.

What is most effective is to cut your food intake by, say 40%; drink no fewer than eight glasses of water a day and to do some form of exercise at least five days a week. A brisk walk is something most people are able to stick to on a daily basis.

Strong determination and the end result in mind are required if you are serious about losing weight. Many have done it, and so can you.
